Summit Point 2014

Post by jalopi » Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:29 pm

Sup bros, word on the street is that there's some serious drama going on between the DN head honchos and the new track management

Anyway, I hear the new guy wants to enforce some new, stringent rules and charge a decent bit more for track time - and just to get on the track. Anything set in stone yet? Just kind of curious if DN is falling apart at summit and if I should stop rushing to get my car done for this season.

Rumors are funny like that. Drama? Not really. Some politics maybe, but most things are Summit going "whoa whoa, you have tons of people and the events are like huge parties. We don't really ever do that at our track".

I won't go into it but last year there was some change of staff and some issues with other programs at Summit that made them freak out about liability. Since DN tends to be more free form and attract tons of spectators/inexperienced drivers, Summit rightly decided it wanted to make changes.

I don't get where the extra charge rumor came about. That will likely not change. Drifting will happen at Summit Point this year. Don't worry about that. The schedule will be out soon. Bank on an event probably mid/late april.

and god damnit I forget your name for the life of me. I apologize.... Chris? John? Mark-Anthony!

The problem you'll see is that the most pissed off drifters will spread the worst rumors. I was gonna say what Yoshi already said.
Sway is like a race horse; if you push it sometimes, it's ok, but if you are hard on it all the time, then it's going to break its ankle and then you will have to shoot it.

Plus, "head honchos"? We are more of a group of guys to bounce ideas off of. Summit lays down the law. We can only suggest things. In the end, what they say goes.

This is not directed at you 'jalopi', but I always find it funny when DN drivers complain about rule enforcement or 'high' fees.
If you've ever participated in a FATT, NASA, SCCA, or HPDE style event, you'll quickly see that drifting is:
1) the wild-west of motorsports and a damn near anarchy free-for-all when compared to these other automotive events
2) a great value for the money/seat time.

Is the DN 2014 schedule on the forums? I couldn't find it.
